The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (IAMB), www.iamb.it,  Italian offshoot of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), an international inter-governmental organisation established in 1962 under the patronage of the OECD and the Council of Europe, has always directed its efforts to the sustainable development of rural areas in the Mediterranean countries by providing support to the governments. In 1996, it undertook a new range of activities related to organic agriculture and became a landmark for the organic sector by providing training, research and experimentation to co-operate to the development of the Mediterranean basin.
